Whatās inside?
Five guides that cover the path most people take with Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4.
#1. Getting started with Google Analytics 4. Learn how to install and configure GA4, how to track events and key events, and how to check that the data is coming in the way you expect.
#2. Google Tag Manager for Beginners.Ā Learn what Google Tag Manager is, how a container works, and how to get from an empty account to your first published tag.
#3. Working with reports in Google Analytics 4.Ā Learn how to find your way around the GA4 interface, which reports are worth your time, and how to build custom reports.
#4. 8 steps to become an experienced Google Tag Manager user.Ā This is the part that takes you from copying snippets to knowing why they work. Data layer, variables, triggers, debugging, and the habits that make the difference.
#5. Server-side tagging with Google Tag Manager.Ā Learn what server-side tagging is, why people move to it, and what the setup actually involves before you decide whether it is worth it.
Why these five guides?
Nobody learns analytics in a straight line.
You install Google Tag Manager because someone told you to. Then you open Google Analytics 4 and none of the reports make sense. A few months later a client or a colleague asks you about server-side tagging, and you are back to square one.
These five guides cover that whole path. The first two get the tracking working. The third one helps you read the data once it arrives. The last two are for when the basics stop being the hard part.
This is the set I would hand to someone starting out, and the set I would still want on my own desk a few years later.
Which one should you start with?
If Google Tag Manager is new to you, start with guide #1 and #2. They assume no prior knowledge.
If you have been setting up tags for a while and it mostly works but you are not always sure why, guide #4 is the one to read first.
And if you already know your way around and you are looking at server-side tagging, skip straight to #5.
By the way, if you already have one or two of these, take the rest anyway. The whole set is free.
