Google Tag Manager is what lets you add and manage tracking codes on a website without waiting on a developer every time you need a new one. This free mini-course covers the part everything else depends on: containers, tags, triggers, variables, and getting Google Analytics 4 collecting data properly.

It takes about 90 minutes. At the end there’s a 30-question quiz, and passing it gets you a course-completion certificate with your name on it.

More than 15,000 people have taken it so far. It costs nothing, and there’s no card and no trial.

How to get your free Google Tag Manager certificate?

Three steps, and the whole thing fits in an afternoon.

Step 1. Enroll in the course. It costs nothing and it needs an email address. No card, no trial. All free.

Step 2. Work through the three modules. 90 minutes of video, split into accounts and containers, tags, then triggers and variables. You can stop and restart whenever you like, and the course remembers where you were.

Step 3. Pass the 30-question final quiz. Answer the questions, get instant feedback, and your course-completion certificate is issued as soon as you pass. If you don’t pass the first time, go back to the lessons and try again. Nobody’s counting attempts.

What's included in the free Google Tag Manager certification?

The course is free, self-paced, and takes about 90 minutes. Here’s what comes with it.

Course completion certificate

Finish all the lessons, pass the final quiz, and you’ll get a Google Tag Manager course-completion certificate with your name on it. It’s yours to download and to add to LinkedIn.

30-question quiz

At the end of the course you’ll answer 30 questions and get instant feedback on each one. The quiz is the part that decides whether you’ve understood the material, so treat it as the real test rather than a formality.

3 modules, 90 minutes of video

The videos take you from creating your first container to configuring Google Analytics 4 on your own site, in order, with nothing skipped.

Useful resources

Every lesson is enriched with links to related and useful resources, guides and tools, so when you hit something you want to go deeper on, the next step is already there.

“I found this course to be better and easier to follow and understand that Google’s own GTM academy. For a true beginner, Julius explain concepts and show examples in a way that someone who may have never had a previous concept of tagging can understand. I loved the course. Thank you so much for doing this! I have a new job and need to be able to use GTM immediately upon starting.”

Is a free Google Tag Manager certificate worth having?

It depends on what you want it for, so here’s my honest read.

As proof that you sat down and worked through something structured, it’s worth having. It’s a reasonable line in the certifications section of LinkedIn, and it costs you 90 minutes and nothing else.

What has moved the needle for people I’ve taught is a container they built themselves and can explain out loud. A data layer you specified. Triggers that fire when they should. A Google Analytics 4 event that made it into a report. Do the course, take the certificate, then go and build something you can show someone. The second part is what gets you hired.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The course, the quiz and the certificate all cost nothing. There’s no card required and no paid tier hiding at the end of it. I sell paid Google Tag Manager courses elsewhere on this site, and this isn’t one of them.

No. Google does not run a Google Tag Manager certification or exam, and Google Skillshop has no Google Tag Manager course in its catalog. This is a course-completion certificate issued by Analytics Mania.

About 90 minutes of video plus the time you spend on the 30-question quiz. Most people finish in one sitting. The course is self-paced, so you can spread it over several days if you’d rather.

No. Once you’ve passed the quiz and the certificate is issued, it’s yours permanently.

A Google Chrome browser, an internet connection, and ideally some Google Analytics basics. You don’t need a website of your own, because the course shows you how to inject a Google Tag Manager container into any site temporarily for practice.

Yes, in the licenses and certifications section. It’s a course-completion certificate from Analytics Mania, so name it that way.

The free course covers setup. The natural next step is event tracking, ecommerce and the parts of Google Tag Manager that take real practice. That’s what the GTM Masterclass is for.
